From April 18-22, join FortWhyte Alive as they host a series of virtual events every evening to teach you and your family about climate change. It’s FREE, but registration is required.

Monday, April 18

The Climate Atlas of Canada: A Tool for Climate Action. See how climate change impacts our health, and what actions are needed to mitigate these impacts.

Guided by Prairie Climate Centre, get an overview of how to navigate this interactive map and learn the basics of climate change.

Tuesday, April 19

In 2015 Patricia Stirbys (Cowessess First Nation)  and Peter Croal, geologist, developed the National Healing Forest Initiative. These Healing Forest spaces offer survivors and families of the Residential School system, as well as all Canadians, an opportunity  to heal, reflect, learn and have meaningful  conversations about reconciliation and the Residential School system.

Patricia and Peter will share information on how communities and institutions can create a Healing Forest for their own reconciliation needs.

Wednesday, April 20

Thursday, April 21

Learn how growing wild rice in flooded paddies and fertilizing it with waste from aquaculture operations is being developed as an innovative means of providing economic opportunities for Indigenous communities.

This project is being led by the Métis organization, The Myera Group, and IISD-ELA is collaborating by providing water quality and ecosystem health analysis to ensure sustainability.
