Workshop Details

Pow Wows are a celebration of Indigenous traditions, families, and culture. They are social meetings used to honour heritage and connect the young and the old through dance, Drumming, and chants. Have you ever wondered about the Pow Wow Drum and the beautiful songs/chants that are performed? This workshop will teach you the different songs that are performed when sounding the Drum from Winnipeg’s own Indigenous artist and performer, Walking Wolf Ray Co-Co Stevenson.

Artist Biography

Ray Stevenson is an Indigenous artist who composes original songs and has released 7 original albums to date. He has collaborated with artists from a variety of genres and has played, recorded, and traveled with Award winning band Eagle & Hawk, and has performed with the WSO on more than one occasion. For over 25 years Ray has facilitated Pow Wow clubs educating people of all ages on Indigenous song and dance. Ray is currently facilitating Pow Wow clubs at the University of Winnipeg, University of Manitoba also working with 5 different School divisions. He has travelled to Italy, France, and Germany sharing his gift. He has performed at the Olympics and world games, and at award shows throughout North America, including in New Orleans, San Francisco, New York City, and Washington DC. Ray has been a member of Folklorama for over 20 years, performing and sharing his culture in all programs.
