Queering & Querying the Museum

This 30-minute guided tour will share stories of 2SLGBTQ+ communities in Manitoba, including sites of repression, resistance, and political activism, and an examination of the challenges of historical interpretation. We’re looking at ways of interrogating and integrating, reflecting and responding – join us as we open the closet doors and invite the community to celebrate together as we “query and queer” the Museum.

Museum Galleries, 6:00 pm / 7:15 pm

Pop-Up: Willow Press

Willow is queer author-owned, and focused on revitalizing the fantasy genre and connecting people with stories and education that they can find and lose themselves in.

Foyer, 5:00 to 9:00 pm

Pop-Up: bead ‘n butter

bead ‘n butter creates colourful hand-beaded statement pieces, by Jessie Pruden, a disabled, queer Métis artist.

Foyer, 5:00 to 9:00 pm

Live in the Sky Planetarium Shows

Want to know what’s up in the sky? Join us for a live show with Planetarium Astronomer Scott Young to explore constellations, the planets, and celestial events. Ask questions and spend some time under the stars as we learn more about the universe.

Planetarium Theatre, 5:10 to 5:30 pm / 6:10 to 6:30 pm / 7:10 to 7:30 pm

Oceans Alive in the Science Gallery

Be prepared to take a deep dive into Earth’s Oceans! To celebrate World Oceans Week, we’re recognizing the important role the ocean plays in our everyday lives and how local waterways connect us with all the ocean.

In the Explore Science Zone, channel your inner cephalopod with some fun crafts – colouring and making your own paper squid to take home.

And, can YOU be the champion for change in our Lake Winnipeg: Shared Solutions exhibit? Learn all about the challenges facing Manitoba’s largest freshwater lake, which connects to the Arctic Ocean. Take part in our award-winning simulator and see how you can be part of the solution!

Science Gallery, 5:00 to 9:00 pm

Stories from the Challenger Deep: Kelly Walsh, Live in the Auditorium

Less than two dozen humans have ever explored the deepest part of Earth’s oceans – the Challenger Deep, located 11 kilometers below the surface of the Pacific Ocean. We’ll hear from one of those explorers, Kelly Walsh, as he joins us virtually from his home in Oregon to tell us all about his journey to the bottom of the sea.

Brass on the Nonsuch

Join us in the Nonsuch Gallery at 7:30 pm for a pop-up performance from our friends at Northern Brassworks.

Telescopes on the Plaza

Our friends at the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada will be on hand with their telescopes to show us the Moon. Visit us outside on the Plaza surrounding the Planetarium dome. (Weather permitting)

Come-and-Go at the Planetarium

The Planetarium will be open all evening for a come-and-go Q&A session! Spend some time under the dome for a chance to ask Planetarium Astronomer Scott Young all of your space and sky questions.
