163 new cases of COVID-19 as of 9:30 AM, October 23

Public health officials advise the 48th death due to COVID-19 has been reported, a male in his 80s from Winnipeg health region. The case is linked to the outbreak at Parkview Place and was previously announced.

The data shows there were:

• one case in Prairie Mountain Health region;
• eight cases in the Interlake–Eastern health region;
• seven cases in the Northern health region;
• 19 cases in the Southern Health–Santé Sud health region; and
• 128 cases in the Winnipeg health region.
Laboratory testing numbers show 2,642 tests were completed yesterday, bringing the total number of lab tests completed since early February to 236,023. Case investigations continue and if a public health risk is identified, the public will be notified.
Public health is advising the following possible exposures:

École Constable Edward Finney School (25 Anglia Ave) October 19 and 20, 2020 A confirmed case of COVID-19 was present at the school on Oct. 19 and 20 when the individual may have been infectious. Close contacts of the case have been advised to self-isolate. Investigation of the situation is ongoing.
Technical Vocational High School (1555 Wall St.) October 16, 2020 Based on the public health investigation, this exposure was assessed to be low risk overall for the school community. The case is not believed to be connected to a previously-reported case. Close contacts of the case have also been identified and advised to self-isolate, and the cohort is being advised to self-monitor for symptoms.

Busy Bee Day Care Centre Inc. (646-648 McGee St.) October 13, 2020 The affected cohort is being advised to self-isolate (quarantine). The public health investigation of the situation is ongoing.
École Leila North School (20 Allan Blye Dr.) October 13-16, 2020 Based on the public health investigation, this exposure was assessed to be low risk overall for the school community. Contacts of the case have been identified and advised to self- isolate. The school will remain open to all other students and staff, who can continue to attend school in person.
St. Emile Catholic School (552 St. Anne’s Rd.) October 13-16, 2020 Based on the public health investigation, this exposure was assessed to be low risk overall for the school community. The infection was not believed to be acquired at school. Contacts of the case have been identified and advised to self-isolate. The school will remain open to all other students and staff, who can continue to attend school in person.
